Incident report: As part of the CALTRANS I-5/Genesee Ave Interchange construction project, UCSD/SDSC will be working with CENIC and fiber contractors to relocate fiber optic cable. During the scheduled window detailed below, the campus will experience a reduction of Internet bandwidth, loss of redundancy and outages to a few specialized single-homed network connections that are known to be tolerant to this type of disruption. This project has many active construction components. CENIC, UCSD and SDSC network folks are doing our best to coordinate with other agencies and still provide maximum network connectivity to the campus community. In that regard, internal campus network connectivity between UCSD, UCSD Health and SDSC will not be impacted.

START: 2200 Sunday, June 26, 2016
STOP: 0400 Monday, June 27, 2016

SCOPE: Fiber optic cable re-route and splicing on a portion of fiber cable that crosses Genesee Ave at I-5

IMPACT: Network connectivity to and from UCSD/SDSC will be handled by our backup border router. Physical route diversity and bandwidth to the campus will be impacted during the window above. Some specialized and/or unique links to the campus will be unavailable during the upgrade and are listed below.

NOTE: The following unique single homed links will experience an outage during this event.
- 100G path for CHERuB, Pacific Research Platform, and PRISM Networks
- Direct DWDM link from Campus Node-B to Hillcrest (Hillcrest will maintain network connectivity via the other side of our DWDM ring)
- CalREN XD circuits - campus impact is to a handful of specific links. Users of those layer 2 paths will be notified

Please contact ACT Helpdesk at 858-534-1853 for questions.
